Update Aquatic Finally Released!
I am happy to announce, that Minecraft 1.13 has been released today! This update, also known as Update Aquatic, is the biggest update in Minecraft's history. Because of this, it has far too many new features, changes, and bugs to be described in this post. A complete list of additions is listed here.
Since Minecraft has just received a massive update, I believe the server should, too. However, because EsperaMondo only has one full-time programmer, the updates I've planned for the server won't appear as fast as updates to the game itself. That being said, I'll lay out some of my long term plans for the server here:
- Create an Esperanto learning platform (a "Lernejo").If a learning platform existed, the server would be more useful to beginners, and we could even acquire some new Esperantists. How would such a platform be implemented? The platform would mainly consist of a set of "minigames". They wouldn't be like minigames you find on other servers (shooting games, running games, etc.), but more like the games you find on Duolingo: flashcards, translation, correct-the-error, etc. The minigames I just described would be the easiest to program, so I would do those first; if you guys have other minigame ideas, please don't hesitate to contact me.
- Create a second server for testing purposes. As of yesterday, I created a second server at the address esperamondo.net:1215 (remember Zamenhof's birthday, 12/15). I created it initially for other players to participate in testing new things. Currently, the test subject is Minecraft 1.13-pre7, so if you want to play "1.13" before it's released, head over there.
- Convert the second server into the main one.If it's what everyone wants, the second server could become the main server rather than just a test server. Now, there are a few reasons to do this. First, the original world is massive (12 GB), and I really don't want to make it any bigger by generating fresh terrain. Second, I know that many players are excited for 1.13, but I'm afraid it will cause problems with the original server, so I want to keep 1.13 confined to another server until I can be sure it's stable. Finally, why not just have a fresh start? I know EsperaMondo represents almost 3 years worth of work, but eventually things get old and cease to be fun anymore.
Now, obviously I wouldn't go through with these plans unless I had support. If you support these ideas, or (especially) if you don't support these ideas, please contact me on Twitter, Discord, or Telegram (links at the bottom of page).
Well, that's all for today. Until the next announcement!
